Chester Bennington's family will make the call on Carpool Karaoke

The Linkin Park episode was filmed on July 14 and was originally slated to air sometime in October via Apple Music.

"Carpool Karaoke" first started out as a segment of Corden's "The Late Late Show" on CBS, which was bought out by Apple in July past year after it gained a sizable following.

This week James Corden, executive producer of Carpool Karaoke, opened up about the late star, telling the Associated Press the fate of the Linkin Park episode will rest in the hands of Bennington's loved ones.

Metallica will star on next week's show, which will air on August 15 - and the new clip features the thrash giants singing along to some surprising songs. "It's completely up to them and that's a conversation we haven't even though about having right now", he said. "We will navigate it as delicately as possible and just adhere to whatever wishes they would want to because I don't think there's any other way we could deal with it, really".

Eric Pankowski, the showrunner for Carpool Karaoke: The Series, reiterated Corden's sentiments in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where he said, "We've been in conversations with the band and the family, and all the representatives of the band". Now we know why they were doing it - and you can catch a quick glimpse of that portion of the episode in the teaser too. Bennington died of a suicide in July. Corden's comments drew immediate reaction from from Bennington's widow, Talinda, who thanked the late night host for his kind offer.
