Bucs 2016 2nd Round Pick K Roberto Aguayo Misses Another Extra Point

Aguayo set an NCAA record with Florida State for accuracy, prompting the Buccaneers to trade up to draft him. That was the worst total among the 30 kickers to attempt at least 20 field goals in 2016, and the third-worst among any kicker since 2000.

Aguayo entered the game ahead of Folk on the team's depth chart, but clearly his performance cause the team to make the decision to cut him. Warning signs appeared when the Buccaneers brought in veteran kicker Nick Folk to challenge for the starting spot. "Perfect" never missed an extra point, going 198-of-198. "You just have to keep your head up move on to the next day".

Aguayo, the first kicker drafted as high as the second round since 2005, made just 22 of 31 field goals as a rookie, with a long of 43 yards. Not what I wanted. He struggled as a rookie, connecting on only 71 percent of his field goals.

It's an unfortunate end for Aguayo but there is one thing at the very top of his job description he didn't do and that was make kicks. I want to change that.

"You know, I keep saying it, I can't say it anymore", Koetter said. He connected on 23 of 24 field goals during the Seminoles' national title run in 2013 and was a Groza award finalist in 2014 after converting 27 of 30 field goals. You're a kicker. You gotta make your kicks. I've just got to put it in the past.

Aguayo clanged a PAT attempt off the right upright after a Bucs touchdown late in the first half, then missed a 47-yard field goal wide right on Tampa Bay's final possession of the game. "It's a new day".
