Bills LeSean McCoy: 'obvious difference' between Sammy Watkins, Jordan Matthews

After sending Jordan Matthews to the Bills in a trade, the Eagles could take a committee approach at slot receiver in 2017.

The Bills dealt both starters in separate blockbuster trades on Friday in an effort to reshape the roster under new coach Sean McDermott. Mathews figures to start alongside Zay Jones in Buffalo as Sammy Watkins moves to the Los Angeles Rams in an earlier trade. Gaines are the talk of the football world mostly because of what Buffalo gave away to get them-starting WR Sammy Watkins and starting CB Ronald Darby.

Is Ezekiel Elliott a third round pick?

"He's a tough kid", says Bills GM Brandon Beane.

"There's no insurance on any of these things", Roseman said.

Matthews has been a proven, productive slot receiver for three years, but he's not dynamic, not explosive and entered the final year of his four-year rookie deal. "We want to find mismatches and move players around so that we keep them guessing".

Snead said the Rams factored in Watkins' injury risk - he had surgery and, now considered healthy, played in Buffalo's preseason opener Thursday - before the trade.

"I think his vertical presence and even just his threat and his name will allow defenses to play us different because you always have to have someone over the top of him", Woods said. "We have to put a positive lining. And as a team, we have to refocus, do whatever it takes to win games".

The Eagles haven't won a playoff game since their cornerbacks were Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown, a pair of high 2002 draft picks. Our models have him down for 74 catches, 855 yards and 4.43 touchdowns for the coming season. Pagula fired head coach Rex Ryan in the last week of the 2016 season and waited until the day after this year's draft to send Whaley packing.

Later on Saturday, the Eagles signed undrafted free agent wide receiver Keevan Lucas, who was a teammate of quarterback Dane Evans at Tulsa, and assigned him Matthews' old number of 81. He finished just 18 yards receiving shy of the 1,000-yard mark as a rookie, then followed it up with 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns in his second season despite missing three games due to injury. But the Eagles signed free-agent receivers Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith and drafted Mack Hollins and Shelton Gibson. Elliott's ban means the Cowboys will have four players suspended when last year's NFC East champions start the season in a month.

"You look around the league and it is a cornerback deficient league", Roseman said.

Although he said he respected the decision, it sounds like Wentz let executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman know he didn't like it. They thought about it, and even brought in Watkins in for a workout, but they went with offensive tackle Greg Robinson.

Darby, the Bills' second-round draft pick in 2015, appeared in 29 games for Buffalo over the last two seasons.

Losing Gaines hurts the Rams. Rowe had just 26 tackles, one interception and seven passes defended in nine games with the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots in the 2016 season after being traded by the Eagles during the preseason a year ago. The Bills are off Saturday before returning to training camp on Sunday.
