A single ticket, sold in IL, matched all six numbers to win the whopping Mega Millions jackpot of $393 million on Friday night, lottery officials said.

Someone who purchased a Mega Millions lottery ticket in the Bay Area is about to cash in on $550,731.

MEGA MILLIONS jackpot prizes may be paid in 30 annual installments or a one-time, lump-sum payment that jackpot winners may choose to receive instead of receiving their winnings in annual payments.

At $393 million, this is the largest Mega Millions jackpot in nearly a year and is the fifth-largest prize amount in the Mega Millions' 15-year history.

For the first time, Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots surpassed $350 million at the same time. That is on the grounds that the big stake for Saturday night's drawing for the contending Powerball game is $356 million. In that drawing, David Trapp won $61 million in California.

The others were sold in California and Ohio. In its history, 11 Mega Million jackpots have been won in August.

The odds of winning either game are extreme - one in 292 million for Powerball, and one in 259 million for Mega Millions.
